From the author of the New York Times #1 bestseller, The Untethered Soul comes the astonishing true-life story about what happens when you just let go.
A thriving spiritual community on over six hundred acres of pristine forest and meadows in Florida, a cutting-edge software package that transformed the medical practice management industry, a billion-dollar public company whose achievements are archived in the Smithsonian Institution, a book that became a New York Times bestseller and an Oprah favorite, and a massive raid by the FBI that would lead to unfounded accusations by the U.S. government—how could all of this spring from a man who had decided to live alone in the middle of the woods, let go of himself, and embrace a life of solitude? But this man had made a radical decision—one that would unwittingly lead him to both the pinnacle of success and the brink of disaster.
Michael A. Singer, the author of The Untethered Soul, tells the extraordinary story of what happened when, after a deep spiritual awakening, he decided to let go of his personal preferences and simply let life call the shots. As Singer takes you on this great experiment and journey into life’s perfection, the events that transpire will both challenge your deepest assumptions about life and inspire you to look at your own life in a radically different way.
“How would I ever know what life was capable of if I were always in control?”
Micheal Singer/The Surrender Experience.
It was that quote early on in the book that really drove it home and by the time I got to the end of the book I just couldn’t convince myself to not surrender and experience the same greatness in my life! I believe my surrendering had less to do with feeling unsuccessful or incapable of guiding my own life and more with my intrigue of there possibly being another way to navigate through life.
The book was hands-down pretty damn impactful and nonetheless impractical. It’s doable, and I know this because I followed the two simple steps Michael Singer suggests in the book and some mysterious things occurred as a direct result. The book inspired me to allow something large to guide me, preference free I must add.
Trust and acceptance are skills one must have to successfully surrender. Michael portrays his life decisions in chronological order so you cannot skim through the book or you’ll miss the bigger picture he is painting. I will however leave you with the two “simple” steps Michael states you should follow to truly surrender to life’s possibilities!
- You must let go of any personal reactions of like or dislike that form inside your mind and heart.
- With the resultant sense of clarity, you simply look to see what is being asked of you by the situation unfolding in front of you. What would you be doing if you weren’t being influenced by the reactions of like or dislike?
I’m not sure I felt these steps to be that simple at first but, after reading the entire book and being in complete amazement at the unfolding of this man’s life I was out to own those two “simple” steps. What did I have to lose? Nada!
