Let me state that the second paragraph is a precurser and I may lose some of you out there… but it’s the basis of the article and will come across as scientific jargon it is necessary; trust me.
Here we go..
We have evolved as multi-sensory human beings. However, we typically only utilize 5 senses: Seeing, feeling, hearing, smelling, tasting. These are the psychological capacities that provide data to our perceptions. Perception is the organizing, identification and interpretation of these senses in order to represent and understand our environment.
A person’s thoughts and expectations influence perception.
Reading about the brain is one thing; but getting my brain to comprehend what I am reading is another. However, here’s the part where years of reading and research finally paid off and something in me (my brain) clicked and everything made sense.
This part of the article one again may come across as scientific babble but personally I think you should thank me for this short synopsis of what I now understand about the conscious and subconscious love affair!
Here we go….
Perception
A person’s perception depends on complex functions of the nervous system but the processing of perception happens outside of conscious awareness. In other words; something you are unaware of is actually processing what you think you are seeing and then that something is telling you what it thinks about that thing you are seeing and you think (your awareness thinks) you know what it is you are seeing (perceiving). I’m here to tell you that you know nothing without that something that puts it all together for you to perceive. Following me?
Let me break it down more:

- Conscious awareness only inhabits 5% of the brain’s capacity
- 95% is inhabited by the subconscious.
Your conscious mind (Consciousness) is the part of you that identifies “you” as a distinct individual, a unique spirit.
- The conscious mind (remember only 5%) manages your wishes, desires and aspirations. This is also your creative mind that can look to the past and the future; it is bound by time.
The Subconscious mind (95%) is similar to a storehouse of all previous experiences perceived in your lifetime. It is not bound by time.
The significance of this information is that creation can be dictated and defined by the consciousness (that 5% part of your brain I speak about) but the act of creation itself is born from the subconscious (that 95% I talk about).
The conscious mind’s prefrontal cortex (big words with big meanings) can process and manage 40 nerve impulses per second while the subconscious mind’s platform can process 40 million nerve impulses per second. Basically what I’m saying here is the conscious mind is small potatoes in comparison to the subconscious mind and has very little to do with anything outside of formulating your sentences and knowing what chocolate taste like. (I’m exaggerating but hopefully you get the point.)
So back to all these nerve impulses. They are the foundation and platform of the attracting energies that create your reality as you see it. What are attracting energies? I’m so glad you asked. Attracting energies are energies that you are attracting. Upon attracting these energies the subconscious mind’s processor (located in that storehouse of all your experiences) is 1 million times more powerful than the conscious mind’s (which in comparison is like a small generator you can buy at Home Depot). That alone should explain to you why the things you think do not always represent the things that you feel – at least for me it does.
The trick is to consciously be in tune with what you subconsciously believe to be true. How do you know what you subconsciously believe? Look around you and the reality you know to be true right now. You may not like the current situation or circumstance you find yourself in but something in you believes that situation is true. You may “think” it is not; but in order for you to be experiencing whatever it is you are experiencing; subconsciously it is your truth.
When alignment occurs you have reached what is called “Mastery” and become The Master of your fate. Isn’t that so cool?? No you say? Well then let me explain what I mean by “alignment”. When you are experiencing something and you say to yourself “What the hell? I did not want this to happen!!” – you are not aligned. But, if you say to yourself “Crap! What in me believes this BS? – you are still not aligned but you are closer!! So if what you are experiencing is not what you “think” you should be experiencing then you need to change what your subconscious thinks you should be experiencing. You know what I’m referring to yet? Those core beliefs you’ve been watering for years one experience after the other just drenching your beliefs based on how you perceive things to be! It’s no easy task to change your subconscious (core beliefs) because the storehouse is massive and you have only a tiny generator to help you with (from home depot called the conscious). But where there is a will there is a way. The influencing of your subconscious can only be achieved by repetitive and habitual behaviors. Practice makes perfect… How do I get to Carnage Hall? Practice practice practice!! First step is to be conscious (5%) of what you think, but more importantly be careful of how you feel about what you think. Why? Because what you feel lives in that storehouse and it’s the fuel for that big massive generator!!
An excellent book (short read) I recommend on this very subject was written by Neville Goddard “The Feeling is The Secret”. Below is a link to much of Neville Goddard’s published work online which you can access for free!! This guy, simply put, is bad ass! So before you have huge opinions on any of this you might want to read a little before debates begin!
All of this information is a very short synopsis of an extremely intricate and extensive view of the psychology of the mind. The beginning stages of the development of your reality starts with your senses. I see, I feel, I smell..etc and with that you have an emotion attached to each. That emotional connection is stored in the subconscious storehouse. As I stated above we are multi-sensory (we have way more than 5 senses people), but through evolution we have come to depend only on 5 of the sensory mechanisms and from that limited perspective unfortunately our reality is born.
One of the most important yet most dismissed senses we are born with is “Intuition”.
Intuition is our innate ability to acquire knowledge without inference or reason. The storehouse’s (subconscious) generator is emitting a power surge but guess what gets in the way? You do! (That pesky 5% of your brain). Yes, you become aware of this surge but then you start analyzing it to death and it no longer is intuition it’s rational thought and more than likely defined as something it is not! Typically there is no logical or rational justification for the igniting of our intuition and because of that this sensory mechanism will be dismissed time and time again. In hindsight we have all experienced moments in our life when we wish we would have followed our ‘gut instinct” which is not your intuition; but intuition is what triggered it. Your gut instinct is actually the consequence of analyzing your intuition combined with instinctual learned behaivors but that’s an entirely new topic of discussion for a later date!
Intuition is just a level up from your 5 senses but once it filters down into your prefrontal cortex (big words with big meanings) it’s defused and fades into the abyss!
When your perception of the physical world is limited to only the five-sensory modality, the basis of you life in the physical arena is limited as well. Meaning your reality is really limited and possibly really boring!
In order to have a spiritual experience one must go beyond the 5 senses, beyond your limited and boring reality and enter into a new dimension altogether. But the catch is (and it’s a big one) in order to experience something greater, you must believe in something greater. This means you must believe there is something to experience outside of anything you have ever conceptually experienced before.
When those moments occur and they produce such experiences you go beyond your 5 sensory limited abilities and the sky is the limit!!! Your pesky 5% capacity of the mind will in fact find it difficult to perceive (or believe), hence the collective labeling of something ‘un natural’ or ‘super-natural’ to our personal existence. We soon begin to rationalize the experience until the experience becomes perceivable (believable) and depending on if it’s your first experience or one of many will eventually determine what you really believe of that experience – and then you store it as truth. Let me reiterate that because it is important! We soon begin to rationalize the experience until the experience becomes perceivable (believable) and depending on if it’s your first experience or one of many will eventually determine what you really believe of that experience – and then you store it as truth. Simple huh?
Every experience will be consciously recognized with 5% of your brain’s capacity and then identified, categorize, judged, and measured against itself as belief or disbelief. WE ALL DO THIS! (subconcsiously) Whatever we think in a habitual and repetitive manner feeds into our pre-programmed subconscious mind’s massive generator in the storehouse of all thoughts and experiences. It is our subconscious mind that ultimately determines our fate!! Yes, that’s right – that storehouse full of crap we’ve collected unaware it was collected crap is dictating your reality right now!! SMH
Breaking it down again. If we evaluate the two levels of the brain’s capacity; conscious vs the subconscious – It is the conscious mind (only 5% of the brain’s capacity) that has evolved as a tool for survival meanwhile it is impressing upon the subconscious a bunch of subjective truths on a personal basis. I’m about to get pretty deep here and go out on a limb: Where is the placement of God our Creator in all of this psychological and scientific data? If the Kingdom of Heaven resides within wouldn’t it be safe to say God would not reside on/in the level of your mind that dictates and defines your truth? What actually defines your truth? That small generator with only 5% capacity! I would argue that God our Creator would find placement in the storehouse of all thoughts, experiences, and emotions? I believe God resides where summation of the truth can be found – Subconsciously.
…and that’s what I know.
Here’s what other’s know..
Before publishing this article I searched the internet for a brain scan that would demonstrate conscious vs subconscious in action. Although I did not find that particular image here is what I did find…(You should really read the article I’ve attached to expand your mind).

“So if you don’t like the reality that you live in, if your reality is one of worry or fear or depression, do meditate on a positive belief system, and maybe you too can end up with an asymmetrical thalamus. Very weird”. – Mark Robert Waldman, Associate Fellow at the Center for Spirituality and the Mind, University of Pennsylvania.
